 Tens Of Thousands Join President Raisi's Funeral In Tehran, Iran

Tens of thousands of Ira_nians gathered in Tehran for the funeral of President Ebrahim Raisi, who di_ed in a helicopter crash on May 20, 2024. 

Mourners, holding portraits of Raisi, congregated at the University of Tehran where Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led prayers. 

Raisi, widely expected to succeed Khamenei, died along with his foreign minister and six others end route to Tabriz. 

The procession moved from the university to Enghelab Square, with plans to bury Raisi in Mashhad after additional rites. 

Khamenei declared five days of national mourning and appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as caretaker president.
